Experience the "Artistry" of Japan in Hong Kong /

Arts & Crafts Studio is pleased to present a special event series With Atelier Densan featuring top traditional craft masters visiting Hong Kong directly from Ishikawa and Aichi Prefectures, Japan. They will showcase authentic artisan techniques through live demonstrations and immersive hands-on workshops. This cultural gathering allows participants to experience centuries-old Japanese craft traditions and witness the master artisans' refined skills and spirit up close, without traveling to Japan.

Elegance in Dyeing and Weaving: The Aesthetics of Kaga Yuzen The first chapter of the series is led by Kaga Yuzen artist Mr. Takeshi Yamada from Ishikawa Prefecture, centered on the theme "Stroke by Stroke: Expressing the Beauty of Kaga Colors." Trained under the renowned master Shuichi Kanamaru, Mr. Yamada has received the Chairman's Award from the Association for the Promotion of Traditional Craft Industries. His creations uphold the natural, realistic, and elegant classic designs of Kaga Yuzen while seamlessly blending traditional dyeing with modern lifestyle objects and cross-industry collaborations. During the live demonstration, Mr. Yamada will showcase intricate hand-drawing techniques on silk screens and perform the complete color-dyeing process directly on kimono fabrics.

Alongside the visual demonstration, the workshop offers a premium hands-on crafting experience. Under Mr. Yamada's guidance, participants will create their own "Kaga Yuzen Mini Hand-Painted Fabric Frame," transforming high-level kimono dyeing art into a cherished piece of home aesthetics.

As the 7th-generation successor of the century-old "Iwata Sanpo Workshop" and a nationally certified traditional craftsman, Mr. Iwata masters ancient woodworking techniques for sacred items while actively incorporating traditional craft into modern daily product design. On-site, he will demonstrate the complex and sacred craft of making a Hishaku (traditional wooden water ladle), displaying precision over lines and structures.

In the hands-on session, participants will work with precious Hinoki (cypress) wood under Mr. Iwata's guidance to craft a "Miniature Hishaku" and assemble a naturally fragrant "Floral Wooden Aroma Diffuser."
